Location:
Our school is located just off Holt Town Centre on the roundabout on the A148/B1149 junction.
A map of the school's location can be found here.
The town of Holt was first mentioned in the Doomsday Book of 1086. In 1708 the Great Fire of Holt destroyed much of the town centre which accounts for the Georgian architecture that is found in the town today. The centre of the town is well known for its range of interesting and unique shops. .Around four miles to the north is the North Norfolk coastline with Salthouse, Cley and Blakeney all within easy reach. The larger towns of Fakenham, Sheringham and Cromer are within 10 miles, with the county City of Norwich just over 20 miles away.
A little bit of our school's history:
The origins of Holt Primary School can be traced to the mid-nineteenth century when there were two schools in the town. Our infant building was first used in 1910 and the older children moved to our present building in 1928 - at that time, pupils remained here, at what was called Holt Senior Elementary School, for the whole of their education.
When Sheringham Secondary Modern School (as it was known at the time) opened in the 1950's, our building was renamed Holt County Junior School and was separated from the Infants by a high fence! Fortunately, Mr Wiles, who was the Head in 1965, amalgamated the two buildings, pulled down the fence and we became Holt County Primary.
Since then, various alterations and improvements have taken place, with the provision of an activities hall, offices, staffroom, library and most recently, a kitchen.
Further improvements have also been made to the school environment with the installation of some outdoor play equipment in both the infant and junior play areas and the provision of two bicycle shelters. We have improved the access to the infant building and also provided a decking area for our early years pupils. Last summer we improved the safety of access to the infant building and also completely refurbished the junior toilets, including the provision of a disabled facility.
The school changed its name to Holt Community Primary School in 1999.
